Ferrara represents a harmonious blend of historic architecture and breathtaking landscapes. The surrounding areas are no exception, there is a themed route for all tastes, you just need to have the desire to discover new fascinating and sometimes unspoilt places, perfect for cycling.
Some of the most important routes include the Burana cycle route (from Ferrara to Bondeno, 19 km); the Via Romea germanica (from Ferrara to Argenta, 45 km); the Destra Po cycle route (from Stellata via Ferrara to the Adriatic Sea, 123 km); and finally the loop from the Lidi Comacchiesi to the Po Delta (Lido delle Nazioni, Goro, Mesola, Codigoro, about 60 km).
Comacchio
Comacchio is a splendid lagoon town and the heart of the Po Delta Park. The many bridges, the beautiful San Pietro bridge, and the colourful houses make it resemble a miniature Venice. Comacchio also boasts the majestic Cathedral of San Cassiano and the characteristic Red Tower. Comacchio is also home to one of the "Taste Museums" scattered throughout Emila Romagna: the Manifattura dei Marinati, where eels, a typical dish, and acquadelle are produced.Cento
The well-kept and elegant buildings, the picturesque historic centre and some not-to-be-missed events have made Cento well known. The Rocca and Porta Pieve are beautiful, evidence of the ancient defence walls. In the old town centre you can admire the cheerful Municipal Theatre dating from the mid-1800s and various palaces of "power".Voghiera
The picturesque town of Voghiera is home to several churches that are truly interesting for the historical testimony they bear. For example, not to be missed is the ancient Parish Church of San Leo, which was the seat of the first diocese in the territory of Ferrara. In Voghiera you can also find the Delizia Estense di Belriguardo, the richest and most sumptuous Este residence. Moreover, Voghera is also renowned for the cultivation of dop garlic, the great protagonist of Ferrara cuisine.Portomaggiore
The green and cheerful municipality of Portomaggiore boasts a well-kept and characteristic town centre. Of particular interest is the Delizia Estense del Verginese, a 16th-century Este residence. Characteristic and with Romanesque lines is instead the Parish Church of San Michele Arcangelo, dating back to 1970. Also worth a visit is the Archaeological Museum, which houses the surprising findings of the excavations that took place in 2002 on the estate adjacent to the Delizia Estense del Verginese.Bondeno
The charming municipality of Bondeno boasts an impressive fortress. The Rocca Possente di Bellaria is a cultural centre with truly interesting and emotionally engaging exhibitions and temporary displays. Bondeno is also home to the former residence of the poet and playwright Ludovico Ariosto.Codigoro
Cordigoro is one of the municipalities that make up the eno-gastronomic itinerary of the "Strada dei Vini e dei sapori - La via del grande fiume". Here stands out among all the numerous centres of interest the stupendous Pomposa Abbey, dating back to the 6th-7th centuries. Inside there are frescoes in Giotto's style and an evocative mosaic floor made up of marble inlays.Goro
Goro boasts the characteristic of being the ideal habitat for a great variety of fish species, among which the clam is very popular. Equally tasty but not as famous as the Goro clam is the typical variety of mussels. The Palù Tower, dating back to the early eighteenth century, is worth a visit.The Po Delta Park
The Park embraces various municipalities and includes museums, ancient residences and towers of important historical and cultural value. Just to give a few examples, the Ecomuseum in Argenta and the Territorial Museum in Ostellato are noteworthy. Very nice rooms, well equipped, very clean and ideally located (there is also an ice cream shop across the street which is very good). We had a great 2 nights. Very attentive room staff. I have discovered a new electronic key entry system which is great!

To be picky: 1) Unfortunately there is no lift and the spiral staircase is not very convenient to do with a suitcase. 2) I would have appreciated the presence of a refrigerator in the room
Thanks Stefano for the nice review and high score. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and hope to be able to re-host you next time. He is right about fussiness, but unfortunately, being a structure from the 1930s, it is under protection and impossible to renovate in the stairs. As for the fridge, our mistake in not having reported that it was in the closet, forgive us and next time we will also find it with a bottle of wine from our area.
